- Directions: The Kashgar International Hotel is the tallest building the area, located just east of the train station. The entrance faces south onto QianTangJiang Road between the big roundabout and the “Y” split in the road.
Location
The Urumqi Kashgar International Hotel is one of only a couple hotels within walking distance of the Urumqi train station that can legally accept foreigners.
From the train station you should be able to see the building on the other side of the elevated highway that has the characters 喀什国际酒店 on the top – it’s the tallest building in the nearby vicinity.
If you need to stay near the train station for either a layover or you have an early departure, this is an excellent location. It’s also right next to quite a few bus stops, including the BRT1. It is not, however, the best place to stay if you’re wanting to visit the city and stay for a few days.
Atmosphere
Urumqi’s Kashgar International Hotel is pretty much like any other typical China hotel. The rooms are equipped with nice bathrooms (western toilets), semi-comfortable beds, a TV with basic China cable channels, and free internet.
There’s nothing spectacular about this hotel: it provides reasonable comfort for a good price right near the train station.
You probably won’t run into too many western travelers here because, frankly, they don’t advertise to that market. Unfortunately you can’t even find them on English-language hotel booking sites. The price is great, however, if you just need a place to stay near the train station.

About Urumqi
Urumqi, capital of China’s largest and most western province of Xinjiang, is located in a pass along the TianShan mountains. Ethnically the city is divided almost in half, with most Uyghur residing in the south while Han continue to build up the north. The Sheraton Urumqi is situated in the middle, mostly in the Han part of the city but quite close anything worth seeing in the city.
From Urumqi you’ll have access to the Urumqi International Airport, a train station that can bring you most anywhere in the province, and plenty of tourist agencies to help you in between.
