Karamay: A City in the Desert

This picture was taken less than 2 kilometers from my home in an area that my wife and I have begun to picnic now that it’s getting warmer.  This is just one example of just how small our city is, and just how lifeless it is the moment you step outside the city limit.  Oddly, I love it.

The rock formations are the same you’ll find at the nearby Ghost City here in Xinjiang, although not as large and therefore not considered a tourist destination.  Our newly legalized dog has made these soft hills his new playground, and we’re happy to bring a book and a blanket to oblige.

Amazing photo! The highrises in comparison to the rouged terrain is incredable.
