A Rest Stop along the famous Karakoram Highway

A trip along the Karakoram Highway is a treat in itself but if along the way you happen to need some real food, the ever-present police stops usually come with some small vendors ready to sell you some potato chips and a Pepsi.  I can’t imagine how the people who man these shops can earn a living but the rickety shacks they put up don’t indicate a huge initial investment.

The incredible mountain peaks that surround the entire length of the highway from Kashgar to the Pakistan border offer endless opportunities for beautiful photographs, not the least of which includes the pristine Karakul Lake.

I have that exact pic, it’s located at the police checkpoint on the way to Lake Karakul. I had to do a sneaky one as you are not allowed to take pics there.

Yes! That is exactly the place and the same circumstances. I had to carefully choose a moment when the police weren’t looking in order to get this picture. It was a beautiful area, but the best was yet to come during our stay in Karakul. Awesome.
