Celebrating a Uyghur Wedding 1984: Picture of the Week
“Celebrating a Wedding” by rickytanghkg
I’ve learned to appreciate archived photos of Xinjiang, being able to look at the different ways this place has both changed as well as remained stuck in the past. This beautiful photo is actually part of a collection of slides (Kodachrome) and B/W shots (just recently scanned) taken during Ricky’s trip to Kashgar in 1984. It reminds me a bit of last year’s release of archived TIME photos of Xinjiang, although not as old, which photographically present this area’s colorful history. Other locations in Ricky’s scans include Beijing, Qinghai, and Dunhuang, so I highly suggest you take a look at them.
Keep this photo in mind as I have begun writing another article detailing my experiences with modern Uyghur weddings.
