From Xinjiang to Your Computer Screen...Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to everybody!  Just wanted to say that even though this was our third Xinjiang Christmas away from family, we were still able to manage to have a good time celebrating with friends.  It's been a busy week trying to prepare for all of the parties and school functions that take place during Christmas so we are looking forward to the upcoming New Year holiday next week wherein we will be getting half of Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday off from work.

I played my final game of the winter basketball tournament I've been talking about on Christmas Eve.  It was an exciting game that came down to the final few minutes and my team was able to pull away with a win to take first place trophy for the tournament (see picture below).  I've learned quite a lot about how the game of basketball is both played and viewed here in China, and as much as I wanted to share that information publicly I've found that most of that knowledge goes beyond the interest of this blog or many of you as readers.  I'll spare you the talk about philosophies of defense and just tell you that China's youth are becoming quite the basketball players.

As a final side note, if you forgot to send me a Christmas present this year and are looking for something to give, why not head over to the China Blog Awards and make a quick vote for this site?  The voting ends at the end of the month and if you've been enjoying stories about Xinjiang's food, basketball, and culture a simple vote would be just swell.  If you're looking to be on the receiving end of a Xinjiang Christmas just pop your e-mail address into the box below this post to get updates sent straight to your inbox.  Could there be anything better?  I submit no.

There's also plenty of other blogs that I think you should vote for (at least I did), so spread some of your holiday cheer, ok?
  • China. Hope. Live.  Joel is a great writer with fun experiences, so vote for them here.
  • The Opposite End of China.  This is the reigning king of Xinjiang blogs, a position I aspire to.  Vote for him here.
  • The New Dominion.  The only other Xinjiang blog I know about besides the one above.  I don't think they're in the vote, so just take a look at their site.
There are plenty of other China sites that I read, and if you're interested just check out my blogroll.  Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!
