Happy Birthday Tiffany!!
Josh:
Good news: Tiff had a wonderful birthday!
Bad news: Josh forgot the camera. (Am I really my dad’s son?)
We had a great birthday celebration that weekend, a celebration which started with a small treasure hunt for Tiff based on the show “The Amazing Race”. To give you some background, not many of you know, but since our city has installed a new cable television system that requires the purchase of a box to watch TV, we no longer receive any channels on our TV. This has forced us to download American TV shows to keep us entertained, shows which include The Closer, Psych (very good show!), Burn Notice, Numb3rs, Mythbusters, and The Amazing Race.
Last week we finished season 12 of Amazing Race, a TV show that chronicles the journey of many different teams as they race around the globe finding clues to lead them to their next destination. The adventures are captivating and and the idea of a travel race is ingenious. In honor of how much we both enjoyed watching this TV show (especially Tiff), I decided to set up a city-wide birthday “race” for Tiffany.
Tiffany:
For an hour and a half I (Tiffany) took buses and taxis all over the city finding clues and more clues while Josh ran around trying stay ahead of me to give me flowers, chocolates, and presents at different stops. The final stop was our favorite dumplings restaurant where 16 of my friends and co-workers had gathered for a surprise celebration around a huge lazy-susan full of various Chinese foods. For 2 hours we talked, ate, and played games in what is a pretty traditional Chinese birthday party. With a cake, a birthday crown, and the famous “Flame-throwing birthday candle” it was quite the birthday celebration.
Thanks to all of you who wrote, sent cards/e-mails and all of you who contributed to the packages that were sent. It was a wonderful and memorable birthday.
As a side note…we bought our tickets back to America today!! We’re leaving here on July 12th, arriving in Dallas on July 28th and coming back to China (3rd year! Don’t worry…we know we’re crazy) on August 24th. “Wait a second” you may be saying, “there’s almost 3 weeks between the 12th and the 28th of July! That’s not right!” Oh yes it is. We’re making a few stops along the way, but we’ll wait to let you know what those stops will be. It’s gonna be awesome! Can’t wait to see some of you!
